The introduction of the Carbon Reduction Label

For individual's and the general public information: The Carbon Reduction Label has been developed by the Carbon Trust, the UK's leading authority on carbon reduction, to help you understand the carbon footprints of the products and services that you use everyday. A Carbon Reduction Label shows you the amount of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and other greenhouse gases that are emitted as part of a product's manufacture, distribution, use and disposal otherwise known as its carbon footprint.

These Greenhouse gases (GHGs) are so called because they trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere and help keep the planet warm enough to sustain life. The main gases are Carbon Dioxide (CO2), methane and nitrous oxide that comprise of the majority of Greenhouse gases. The label like the one below applies to a food product.

The Carbon Label Company's primary objective is to help businesses to measure, certify, reduce and communicate the lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of their production of raw materials, processing, transportation, storage, preparation, use and disposal. processes, products and services, including food and drink industry. Increasingly, consumers may select products based on the carbon label.
